The site of the plant is located in Tianwan, Lianyun District, Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province. The plant area is planned for 8 million kilowatts nuclear power units, leaving room for the construction of another 4 units. In the first phase of the project, two Russian AES-91 PWR nuclear power units with a single unit capacity of one million sixty-one thousand watts will be built. The design life is 40 years, the annual average load factor is not less than 80%, and the annual power generation is up to 14 billion kWh. The Tianwan Nuclear Power Station is promoted by China and Russia in deepening political mutual trust, developing economics and trade, and strengthening the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. High-tech cooperation in the field of nuclear energy is by far the largest technical and economic cooperation project between the two countries and is also one of the key nuclear power construction projects in the Ninth Five-Year Plan. The smooth implementation of the second phase of the nuclear power plant project is conducive to deepening political mutual trust and developing economic and trade between China and Russia. The successful implementation of the project will play an important role in promoting local economic construction and the safe and efficient development of nuclear power in China and further consolidating and deepening Sino-Russian cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.
